FINLAND/USA: US corporation Innventure has established a new company, Accelsius, to commercialise a passive two-stage thermosyphon cooling system for critical electronic equipment developed by Finnish telecom company Nokia.

Accelsius has acquired the rights to the technology which has been developed for data centres and mobile network equipment by Nokia subsidiary Nokia Bell Labs. It is described as a scalable passive two-stage circulation process providing cooling direct to the chip or other heat sources, without using pumps. Said to be simple to install, energy efficient and compact, it is adaptable for a broad range of critical electronic equipment and can be deployed at any scale, from a single server to large data centres.

“By collaborating with Innventure, our hugely versatile cooling technology can be offered to a broad range of companies in different industries to meet the challenge of heat densities in data centres and telecom networks while lowering energy consumption,” said Jukka Nihtila, Nokia’s vice-president of patent transactions and external alliances.
